Rosemary

Also known as rosemary oil, rosmarinus officinalis, rosemary leaf extract

What does rosemary do for hair and skin?

Rosemary is an herb whose oil and extract are used on the scalp and skin. On the scalp it boosts blood flow around the hair follicle, and one study found it grew hair about as well as 2% minoxidil after six months. On skin it works as an antioxidant and a natural preservative.

Rosemary FAQs

A 2015 study found rosemary oil matched 2% minoxidil for hair count after six months. The study was small, so results vary.

Expect to wait three to six months. Hair growth cycles are slow.

Use it two or three times a week, or daily if you use a ready-made scalp serum. Always dilute pure essential oil in a carrier oil first.

You can leave a diluted oil or scalp serum on overnight. Wash it out in the morning if your scalp feels itchy or greasy.
