What is biotin?

Biotin is vitamin B7, a nutrient your body uses to build keratin, the protein in hair and nails. It shows up in hair supplements, shampoos, and scalp serums. It helps most when your biotin levels are low, and results take at least three months.

Biotin FAQs

Biotin helps hair grow when your levels are low. If your levels are normal, the proof is thin, so look for formulas that pair it with other nutrients.

Give it three to six months. Hair grows about half an inch a month, so new growth takes time to show.

Biotin can throw off thyroid and heart test results. Tell your doctor you take it, and ask if you should stop a few days before a test.

Biotin shampoo coats and thickens the feel of each strand. It doesn't reach the root the way a supplement does.
