What does clay do for skin?
Clay is a natural mineral that soaks up oil like a sponge. In a mask or cleanser it pulls oil and debris out of your pores, so they look smaller and feel less congested. Kaolin is the gentle one, and bentonite is stronger and better for very oily skin.

Clay FAQs
Use a clay mask once or twice a week. More often than that dries out your skin and can make it produce more oil.
Leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes and rinse while it is still slightly damp. A mask that dries until it cracks pulls water out of your skin.
Kaolin is better for normal or sensitive skin because it is mild. Bentonite absorbs more oil, so it suits very oily skin.
Clay masks make pores look smaller by clearing out the oil that stretches them. The effect is temporary, so keep masking weekly.
