Zinc Oxide

Also known as mineral UV filter, non-nano zinc, ZnO

What is zinc oxide?

Zinc oxide is a mineral sunscreen filter that protects against the full range of UVA and UVB rays. It covers more of that range than titanium dioxide, the other mineral filter. It also calms skin, which is why it suits sensitive, acne-prone, and rosacea-prone skin.

Zinc Oxide FAQs

Zinc oxide covers more of the UV range than titanium dioxide, the other mineral filter. It is also one of the filters least likely to irritate.

Zinc oxide doesn't clog pores. It can calm the redness of breakouts.

Look for 10% or more when zinc oxide is paired with another filter, and closer to 20% when it is the only one. The SPF number on the label is the final guide.

Non-nano means the particles are larger than 100 nanometers. Both nano and non-nano zinc stay on the surface of healthy skin.
