BHA (Beta Hydroxy Acid)

Also known as beta hydroxy acid, salicylic acid

What is BHA?

BHA stands for beta hydroxy acid, and in skincare that almost always means salicylic acid. It dissolves in oil, so it can get inside a pore and clear out the mix of oil and dead skin that causes blackheads. It also calms redness around a breakout.

BHA FAQs

Salicylic acid is the BHA used in almost every skincare product. When a label says BHA, it means salicylic acid.

Start with two or three times a week. Oily skin can often build up to once a day.

Pick BHA for oily skin, blackheads, and breakouts. Pick AHA for dry, dull, or sun-damaged skin.

Many people with oily skin use a 2% BHA every day. Drop back to every other day if your skin feels tight or flaky.
