Arbutin

Also known as alpha arbutin, beta arbutin, bearberry extract

What is arbutin?

Arbutin is a brightening ingredient found in bearberry, cranberry, and pear leaves. It slows the enzyme your skin uses to make pigment, so dark spots fade and new ones form more slowly. Alpha arbutin is the more stable form, and it is gentle enough for most sensitive skin.

Arbutin FAQs

Most people see lighter spots in 8 to 12 weeks of daily use. Sunscreen every morning keeps the spots from coming back.

Arbutin isn't hydroquinone. It is a related molecule that works more slowly and is much less likely to irritate your skin.

You can use them together. They block pigment in different ways, so the pair fades spots faster than either one alone.

You can use arbutin twice a day. It doesn't exfoliate or thin your skin.
