Start your Skin Care Resolutions Today

Happy 2021 everyone! It's a new year and it's time to reevaluate your skincare routine. I hope you have learned from your skincare mistake from last year because it's time for skincare resolutions. It is difficult to find a skincare routine that is perfect for you and your skin type. The skincare industry is very saturated which makes it is hard to find what works without spending money on products that you probably didn't need. This article will discuss several steps to add to your skincare resolutions and to made good habits to take care of your skin. Trust me, you will thank me later.

Skin Detox

You want to start by detoxing from the inside out. Since you probably had quite a bit of champagne from New Years', start by drinking water. If you are not too keen on water, add some cucumbers to it or strawberries to give it a little flavor. Water will give your skin that bounce back that it needs from all that alcohol. Kick off a healthier diet, it's hard to change your eating habits cold turkey. However, it is good to start incorporating more fruits and veggies into your diet, especially for breakfast.

Sugar does contribute to acne so be careful. Sugar is super addictive. Can you believe sugar is just as addictive as cocaine is? Super scary right? It is scary to know that when you begin to slowly cut back on sugar that your body begins to react to it unfairly. Detoxing starts from the inside out, so be sure you are being as healthy you can be. Make little steps to your healthy routine to meet your goal.

Spa Time at Home

If you are working with a budget or not comfortable going to a spa place just yet because of the pandemic, you can create a spa at home. All you have to do is pick any time of the week to take care of your skin when you have the least amount of distractions. Once you figure out your schedule, pick your favorite skincare products you want to use post or pre-shower/bath time. While you are doing that, set the mood for yourself. It is best to create a playlist for yourself and also take advantage of aromatherapy to light some candles. If you have a diffuser, that is even better!

The combination of aromatherapy and music does help lower your stress/anxiety level from your workweek. Take the time this year to do more self-care in your busy schedule. Self-care is always super important for the human psyche, especially for stressful times like today. Self-care helps lower anxiety or depression, especially when you are going through a tough time with the pandemic. You will thank yourself later for this. You will see the difference in your mental health when you start taking the time to sit in the tub with your favorite face mask for a half hour.

Take care of Your Body

As consumers, we are so focused on our face and trying to keep it perfect that we forget about the rest of our body. You have to remember that the skin on the rest of your body needs TLC as well. Take the time this year to keep your body up to par as well especially when winter is over. This can be as simple as exfoliating in the shower twice a week, investing in body butters instead of cheap lotions that are not moisturizing for the body. You want to hit areas that tend to be rough like the elbows and knees.

Keep it Simple

We get so overwhelmed with all these skincare products right in front of us or what the industry is advertising. They advertise that we need to buy everything all at once and have ten thousand steps to keep our skin perfect. First things first, slow down and think about what you need on a daily and weekly basis. Every day you want to keep your steps to no more than 4-5 steps to your routine; cleansing, toning, oil and moisturize. Weekly, you should be masking and deep cleaning for the week.

Take time to cleanse at Night

If you don't take the time to cleanse your face at night, please make the time to do so this year. Think about it, you are walking about and your skin is exposed to a lot especially if you live in the city. If you live in the city, your pores are more exposed to dirt and pollution which can trigger acne. It takes 5 to ten minutes to cleanse your skin at night, add this to your night routine. Your skin will thank you for it.

Dedicate to be Eco Friendly

Many skincare brands are working towards being as eco-friendly as possible. Our planet is filled with plastics every day and it gets into our oceans as well as our water supply. It is best to look into brands that are Eco Friendly and care about the environment because they are aware of their carbon footprint. Skincare brands are working to replace their packaging with glass and anything that's biodegradable in case empty containers do get tossed in the landfill.

Splurge on your skin

Please treat yourself this year, I don't care what excuse you have. Take the time each month to splurge on your skin. Yes, I mean to schedule a spa treatment or facial once a month. Keep in mind to schedule treatments that will make your weekly skincare regimen a lot easier. For example, you can begin waxing. Waxing is easier on the skin and it can save the time/money you spent on shaving.

Dealing with the pandemic has been very stressful and anxiety-inducing. Now it's the time more than ever to treat yourself and improve on your skincare routine. Find out what your skin type is and then you will see what skincare products work best for you. Don't think of this journey as tasking, it can be fun and a relaxing time if you invest in yourself the right way.
