Always wear SPF ~ May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month!

May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month. As the weather warms and we are spending more time at home given the circumstances, we will inevitably be spending more time outdoors. Adequately protecting our skin from the sun is crucial for the prevention of skin cancer. You may be thinking that having a spot removed is no big deal, but skin cancer can be deadly and it is so important to take measures to prevent sun exposure.

Skin Cancer is the most common type of cancer in the United States and an estimated 1 in 5 people will be diagnosed with skin cancer in their lifetime according to the American Academy of Dermatology. Skin cancer can affect all ages, genders and skin types!

Just like any product, your skin type must be taken into consideration when choosing a sunscreen. So I’m breaking down my favorite sunscreens and for which skin types! Here they are, in no particular order:

Elta MD Physical: This is a lightly tinted sunscreen with SPF 41. This product is great for oily types because it has a bit of a matte finish. It also contains some beneficial antioxidants to help mitigate free-radicals. The iron oxides in this (and all) tinted sunscreens help to protect you from the damaging blue light from your electronic devices!

PCA Sheer Tint: This tinted SPF 45 is great for dry types because it’s very moisturizing. It goes on super smooth and the tint is VERY sheer which I love. I like that this one is great for almost all skin tones without leaving a white cast. It contains the antioxidant ubiquinone, and acts as a nice primer under foundation or as a stand alone.

Elta MD Elements: This SPF 44 is a new favorite of mine. It’s best for dry types and leaves a really nice dewy finish. If you don’t like to appear shiny you probably won’t like this one, but I’m all about the glow. It contains hyaluronic acid and has a bit more coverage than some of the other tinted sunscreens. I feel perfectly comfortable wearing this as my makeup. The non-tinted version of this SPF is also a fantastic physical SPF for dry types: Elta UV Replenish.

Revision Skincare Intellishade TruPhysical: An SPF 45, this product is great for someone who likes more coverage. It feels nice on the skin and in my opinion provides more coverage than any of the other tinted sunscreens on this list. If you’re a makeup wearer you’ll probably like this one. I recommend this one for dry types.

Nia 24 Sun Damage Prevention UVA/UVB Sunscreen: This facial SPF 30 is fantastic if you want something light that rubs in really well. It’s a non-tinted option and does not leave any white cast. Note: this one is a chemical SPF! I like this one for oily types!

Elta MD UV Active: I love this physical SPF for the BODY for those who are active outside. I would recommend this for beach days, tennis, gardening, etc… anytime you’ll be outside and sweaty! If you’d rather have a spray and are comfortable with a chemical SPF than opt for the UV Aero

I believe that if you have a sunscreen you love you’ll be more likely to slather it on everyday. Trust me, for me to pick ONE product for the rest of my life, you know if must be pretty darn great for your skin health.
